August 12 - August 13

Silverdale Lutheran Church

How is the Church called to show up in places defined by desolate isolation?

In response to the escalation of immigration enforcement, the Southwestern Washington Synod invites you to an informational Zoom session about our newly launching Lutheran Migrant Solidarity Network. This 1.5-hour virtual gathering will introduce a ministry of presence that centers our neighbors held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center (NWIPC) in Tacoma.

Together, we will explore how congregations across the synod can embody Christ’s love and solidarity in concrete, relational ways.

About the Lutheran Migrant Solidarity Network

This pilot ministry is building a coalition of churches in the Southwestern Washington Synod to accompany our neighbors in immigration detention at the NWIPC in Tacoma.

There is a place for your congregation in this work:

  • Congregations near Tacoma
Called to face-to-face window visitation and in-person expressions of presence and care.
  • Congregations further away
Invited into a synod-wide letter-writing ministry, offering ongoing connection, encouragement, and prayerful solidarity.

At its heart, this network is about showing up—faithfully, consistently, and compassionately—so that those in detention know they are not alone and not forgotten.

Who Should Attend

  • Pastors, deacons, and congregational leaders
  • Social ministry teams and justice committees
  • Anyone discerning how their congregation can accompany immigrants in detention

No prior experience with immigration ministry is required. This is an entry point for learning, discernment, and connection.

  • Learn the vision and structure of the Lutheran Migrant Solidarity Network
  • Hear about current realities around immigration enforcement and detention at NWIPC
